Stephanie Anderson, MD

"My role as a family Physician is to help my patients get well and to stay well.  I feel that providing prevention-related examinations and information is as important as treating your immediate health care needs.  I believe that encouraging individuals to pursue a healthy lifestyle will result in better health for the entire family."

Maleeha Faisal, MD

My passion is to provide chronic care management because healthy people make healthy communities; healthy parents and grandparents set up the building blocks for healthy adolescents. I want my patients to be fully invested in their care plans as I provide supervised opportunities and incorporate ancillary support, diet, and lifestyle changes along with pharmacotherapy.

I address preventive care in every visit and encourage my patients to inquire about their health conditions and plans to make the best decisions and become the driving force of a healthy lifestyle.

My practice focuses on Family Medicine & Sleep Medicine. I believe in educating my patients about their acute needs and partnering with them when making decisions about health care. I am their first point of contact when they are worried about their loved ones declining health conditions.

As an adult sleep medicine specialist, I am also passionate about providing full-spectrum sleep medicine, including evaluating and managing obstructive sleep apnea, central sleep apnea, obesity hypoventilation syndrome, parasomnias, REM behavior disorder, restless leg syndrome, narcolepsy, idiopathic hypersomnia, delayed sleep phase syndrome, and periodic limb movements.

On a personal note, I enjoy spending time with our son and discussing health care disparities with our college-going daughter.  My other interests include traveling and trying different cuisines.

John Berge, MD

"I enjoy time with my family and am eager to get to know yours.  Practicing Family Medicine and delivering babies for the past 14 years gave me the chance to watch children grow and develop, along with their parents and grandparents.  What a privilege to be the doctor for an entire family!  Knowing the context of an individual's life helps me anticipate problems and create personal, practical solutions for my patients.  My mission is to provide quality, up to date, genuine, and personal care.  I am a father of four, awaiting two more through international adoption.  A graduate of Edina High School, St. Olaf College, and the University of Minnesota Medical School, I have returned to work in the community where I live and play."

Jill Johnson, MD

"My family has many generations of physicians.  When it came time to choose my career path, it seemed natural to go into the field of medicine.  Family Practice especially stood out to me because it would allow me to use every aspect of my broad education and experience.  I enjoy the challenge of seeing patients of all ages and variety that Family Practice offers.  One of the most enjoyable aspects of my job is the privilege of caring for patients and their families over time.  It is that trust that makes my career meaningful.

It is my goal to keep informed of the latest medical knowledge so that I can focus on the quality of your healthcare above all else. "

David Nelson, MD

"Dr. David Nelson loves family medicine.  He enjoys working with families and sees the family unit as an extension of a person's health.  A family's health affects the individual, and vice versa.  His goal is to provide the best care to individuals and their families.  Being  a part of an independent, private group gives him the flexibility to do what is best for his patients.

Areas of particular interest to Dr. Nelson include diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, and the atopic conditions of asthma and allergies.  While in the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Nelson underwent additional allergy training and provided allergy care including skin testing, allergy shots, and asthma care.

Dr. Nelson feels it is important to be involved and serve the community.  He grew up in Edina and attended the public schools from kindergarten through high school.  He served in the United States Air Force as a family physician and flight surgeon and continues to serve in the Minnesota Air National Guard as a flight surgeon.  He is also adjunct faculty at the University of Minnesota Department of Family Medicine.

Suzy Runkel, P.A.

Suzanne ("Suzy") Runkel, our Physician Assistant has been with France Avenue Family Physicians since 2003.  Her goal in practicing medicine is to provide the highest quality health care to a wide variety of patients, while at the same time placing emphasis on patient education and understanding.  She desires patients to feel empowered to take steps necessary to modify their lifestyles and prevent future illnesses and harm of their health.  She values staying abreast of developments in medicine to provide the best care to her patients.

A medical mission to Honduras inspired Suzy to practice medicine.  There, she was able to see and appreciate the benefit medicine plays in a person's life.  In addition, her passion for people and education added to her underlying desire to play a role in improving health.  She found medicine to be the bet fit for her and her career path.  She has since returned to Honduras as part of medical missions twice, and hopes to continue serving there in the future.

Suzy's strengths make her a vital part of France Avenue Family Physicians.  She uses her empathy, honesty, and responsibility to understand each patient's situation.  She values her patient's right to privacy and will uphold confidentiality with every encounter.

In a clinic, there is only so much a provider can do to help in the healing process; the rest is up to the patient.  Keeping this in mind, she expects patients to ask questions and also inform her when certain treatment methods are not working.  She will work hard to give patients the "tools" they need to manage their health, and in turn , hopes that patients leave with an understanding of how to work towards a healthier lifestyle.

"As a Physician Assistant in family practice, my goal is to provide high quality care to patients of all ages.  I believe that comprehensive preventative care is extremely important to maintain an individual and family's health.  For this reason, I have a special interest in women's health, adolescent medicine, and patient education.

As a Minnesota native, I am excited to contribute to it's health care system as a mid-level provider.  I plan to utilize my strenghts as an enthusiastic teacher and learner to work alongside the physicians and other staff at France Avenue Family Physicians.  Through communication, I hope to promote a relationship of honesty and confidence between patients and myself."
